Adding or Subtracting Rational Expressions with Different Denominators

Step 1 Find the LCD. Factor each denominator.
The second fraction can be simplified by canceling the common factor of w.
The LCD is (w + 2)(w - 1).
Step 2 Rewrite using the LCD. Multiply the second fraction by	The first fraction already has the LCD as its denominator. So, we do not need to multiply it by anything.
Remove the parentheses in the numerator.
Step 3 Subtract.		When simplifying -(w - 1), remember to distribute the negative sign to both terms inside the parentheses. The result is -w - 1.
